Vance Bell, Chairman and CEO of Shaw Industries, was born and
raised in Macon, Georgia, and has lived and worked in the state of
Georgia his entire life. He graduated from Georgia Tech in 1973 with a
degree in Industrial Management. After a two-year stint with West
Point Pepperell in Newnan, Georgia, he joined Shaw Industries in 1975.
His career has spanned all facets of Shaw Industries inclnding sales and
marketing, international, and operations. He was named Chairman and
CEO of Shaw in 2006. Shaw Industries is the largest carpet producer in
the world, along with being a leading hardwood and laminate flooring
manufacturer and distributor. Shaw is a wholly owned subsidiary of
Berkshire Hathaway and has revenues of over $5.0 bilion and employs
30,000 people.
Vance has been heavily involved in industry, civic, and community leadership roles, including being Chairman of the Carpet and Rug Institute, a member of the Advisory Board of Trustees of the College of Management at Georgia Tech, Chairman of the Dalton-Whitfield Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Executive Committee of the Dalton State College Foundation Board, a member of the Board of Directors for the Northwest Georgia Community Foundation, and a member of the Board of Directors for the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, among others.
Vance lives in Dalton with his wife Jenny and their two children.
