THE TOURS

This weekend is characterized for its insight into the industries which have sustained the socio-economic progress of the city of Dalton and Whitfield county. Class members are divided into four groups. Make sure you share your experiences with others.

1) The Research and Development tour of Shaw's headquarters sets the tone for the tours on Friday. Here the Class will learn the history of the carpet industry, visit the design center and understand the basics of tufting.

2) Carpet mill tours of the Shaw Plant 23, the J&J/Invision headquarters, and a Universal Technologies plant show how carpet is made. The green movement in carpet manufacturing is also explored.

3) The Shiroki North America, Inc. plant shows a different industry in Dalton. This amazing tour allows the Class to learn about how doors components are assembled for many car manufacturing brands.

4) The water and waste tour of Dalton Utitlies blows people's minds. This, the largest utilities system in Georgia, is as comprehensive as it anyone can imagine. From processing waste water to creating clean water that returns back to the environment and allows for continued economic growth in the area.
